There is a major traffic artery between Rinkeby and Järvafältet area and Rissne so I would say it is a safe (and quiet area). It is even in another town, Sundbyberg, and not in Stockholm. The metro system is safe apart from late at night when revellers return home (or in connection with football derbies). This is business as usual in any city. Umeå is bigger and just a town over so if you want skiing and nature it's just as good. Umeå is also the safest city in Sweden statistically or something like that, but overall the whole crime thing in Sweden is way overblown yeah so that's the last thing you have to worry about.
